-
- : Is MUI switchable in the sense that it can be started and shut-down from

-
- : I ask this because I'm in (desperate) need of a web browser but not to
- : the point of interfering with existing applications running under 2.1
- : (A2000 and A3000) or 3.0 (A4000). So far, AWeb seems like the best

- : Studio16, etc., fully support 3.1 and/or MUI). [wishful thinking]

-
- : 1. I understand that MUI requires 3.1 and that 3.1 requires a new ROM.
- : Could I install the 3.1 ROM and merely ADD a new bootable partition
- : for 3.1 and still revert back to 3.0 under the 3.1 ROM?
-
- First, according to the docs, MUI only requires OS/KS 2.0.
-
- : I need this capability as much of my productivity relies on applications
- : which don't seem to run well under 3.1, according to reports read here.
-
- What applications? I haven't run into anything that I used with 2.1 that
- won't work with 3.1. 3.0 and 3.1 are much more similar, so there
- shouldn't be more incompatibilities but fewer.
-
- : 2. Does MUI automatically boot with 3.1 or would I need a separate
- : (bootable) partition to run 3.1 without any MUI "fingerprints"?
-
- I think that you misunderstand something about MUI. It does not boot, it
- isn't an OS but a GUI which programs written for it use. Aside from some
- assigns added to your user-startup file, if you don't run an MUI
- application, the MUI libraries aren't loaded. Once you are finished with
- an MUI app, the libraries are unloaded. If for some reason they don't
- get removed from memory by the app closing, a simple `avail flush' from a
- shell will remove them. Most MUI apps that I have tried do, however,
- properly remove the MUI libraries from memory if they are the last app
- using MUI.
-
- : 3. Does anyone know whether Gold Disk will resume Amiga development or is
- : there a list of current/pending and never-to-be-seen-again developers?
-
- I believe that Gold Disk went over to IBM only. Unless something like AT
- selling 10 million Amigas in a single year occurs, I doubt that they'll
- ever be back. I don't know if a list of "never-to-be-seen-again"
- developers exists. At this point it would seem to be easier to compile a
- list of current developers than worrying about which ones don't support
- the Amiga anymore.
